Comparando y descubriendo.

Cyclon Yasi: The story of destruction

We all know that tropical cyclons are product of nature, but what if it turns to be your worst nightmare? Picture this: a very wealth country being destroyed from overnight without mercy by one of them, shattering thousands of houses, electricity poles and crops, people being forced to evacuate from their own city and even killed. This happened in Australia. Northern Queensland, to be more specific. About midnight on February 2 of 2011, the tropical cyclon Yasi made its appearance. However, it was formed in January 26 of 2011, when In January 31 it intensified to a Category 3. On February 1, it transformed in a Category 4, reaching Category 5 on Febraury 2, the strongest section ever.
Cyclon Yasi was the biggest storm in Queensland´s history. As I mentioned before, the aftermath was terrible. There was an effect on tourism, the environment, society and economy. Floods and the cyclon itself ruined most of the banana and sugar cane plantations, costing environmental and economic losses. National Parks and rainforest vanished, being the habitats of endangered animals. More than 100,000 houses were left without electricity and just one persone died because of the ingestion of poisoned fumes. $10 Billion USD were needed for cleaning up, and more for repairment.
It is a fact that the australian people will never forget this, the devastation of their homeland. This will be a reminder for people, so they can be for next time more prepared for what will come after.
